We plan to install a Decagon wireless sensor network in a commercial green roof installation in 2011. This wireless sensor system will monitor substrate water content, substrate temperature, and runoff from the roof.
This information, together with environmental data provided by a Decagon weather station node (monitoring rainfall, air temperature and relative humidity, net and photosynthetic radiation and windspeed), will allow us to monitor the efficiency of our green roof for stormwater mitigation and heat flux.
We are able to remotely monitor our networks over the internet using logmein software, and download that data for analysis with our stormwater model that we are developing. See our Green Roof pages for more information about this research.
